                 Mount Vernon Police Dept

Their K9 Unit currently inactive.  Our First Mission!
                                County Seat 35,740

K9 Hero Vektor and handler Sergeant Zach Wright retired in 2023.

Since then, the MVPD K9 Unit has remained inactive.

During K9 Vektor's 8 year career, he and Sgt Wright responded

to 1,194 events, 286 assistance requests from nearby law enforcement agencies, were issued 1,144 drug warrants, and

made an impressive 456 arrests.

We can only imagine all the averted illegal gun violence, the pain and suffering of drug use, the resulting addiction, the homelessness, and the inevitable loss of life when K9 Vektor was on duty, deterring crime with his presence, as well as his reputation.  Officers learned among those participating in illegal activities that they tried to avoid crossing paths with him.

Meanwhile, all other law abiding citizens who met K9 Vektor at educational and community events were charmed by his happy-go-lucky playful side!

How many K9s does Skagit County Need?

Our county K9 Units work throughout all of our communities, covering significant acreage. Their response time is often a vital component of their success, especially when considering safety, for them, as well as for our own.  Response time is also a factor in successfully finding missing people, fleeing individuals, and for time sensitive evidence gathering.

Anacortes Police Dept K9 T-Bone and K9 Vektor's statistics prove we need active K9 Units throughout the entire county, because criminals look for opportunities.

The loss of our MVPD K9 Unit created an opportunistic hole in coverage for criminal activity as undetected drugs moved more freely throughout our entire county.  No matter where you live in Skagit County, without the benefit of a MVPD K9 to assist, detect, and ultimately protect, we all lose.

It's crucial for us to reinstate the MVPD K9 Unit with a K9. Mount Vernon is not only our County Seat, it's our heart, and is often the first official introduction visitors have to our area.  â€‹I-5 bisects our county, making Mount Vernon ground zero for distribution of illegal guns and drugs being brought in from both our north and south borders.  It's from here that these items make their way throughout our entire county.  And it's from here in Mount Vernon's unique, central location that our law enforcement can reduce, deter, and even stop this distrubtion from occuring.

Every day our dedicated and highly trained law enforcement (as well as our first responders), aleady strained to meet the needs of our fast growing population, face potentially dangerous encounters with drug trafficers, drug dealers, firearms violence, and those suffering under the influence - all of whom, and for differing reasons, are in desperate need of help.

Let's support our heroic law enforcement, so honorably dedicated to making a difference throughout our county, with ever-ready, highly trained K9 Units to help them better serve and protect ALL of us!
